Proposed changes to bus services – Suburb by Suburb

Aberglasslyn, Rutherford and Telarah

  • • New route 180 would operate between Maitland, Rutherford, Branxton and Singleton, replacing route 182 trips.  It would operate direct along New England Hwy. Some peak hour trips would divert via Rutherford Industrial Estate.

  • • Existing route 181 would be modified to operate between Aberglasslyn and Woodberry via Rutherford Shops, New England Highway, Maitland Hospital, Maitland town centre and railway station, East Maitland, Stockland Greenhills, Metford and Beresfield. In Aberglasslyn the route would operate via Dunkley St, Denton Park Drive, Weblands St and Budgeree Dr. There would no longer be any service in Peter St, Wolstenhome St, Walsh St, Hague St, Endeavour St or Alexandra Ave (part).

  • • New route 182 would operate between Rutherford and Thornton via Maitland Hospital, Maitland town centre and railway station, East Maitland, Stockland Greenhills and Ashtonfield, replacing part of route 181 in the Rutherford area. It would operate via Alexandra Av, Avery St, Bingara St, Aberglasslyn Rd and New England Highway. Existing trips to/from Singleton from Maitland and Rutherford would be renumbered to 180.

  • Existing route 183 would be modified to operate between Rutherford and Tenambit via Telarah, Maitland Hospital, Maitland town centre and railway station, Stockland Greenhills, East Maitland and Raworth. In Rutherford the route would operate via New England Hwy, Harvey Rd, Logan Rd, Regiment Rd, Brigantine St and Wollombi Rd (southern end). There would no longer be any service in Regiment Rd (north of Logan Rd), Garwood St, Belmar St, Arthur St, Neville St or Wollombi Rd (northern end).

Maitland and South Maitland (including Maitland Hospital and railway station)

  • • There would be no change to the streets used by buses in Maitland town centre. All buses would operate via the same streets as present.

  • • All services would continue to operate to and from Maitland railway station.
  • Existing route 192 to South Maitland would no longer operate via Park St and Elgin St. Services would continue to operate via Blomfield St, Anzac St, Cultivation St, Trappaud St and Louth Park Rd.

Bolwarra, Bolwarra Heights, Largs and Lorn

  • • Existing route 185 would be modified to operate via Highland Way, Bolwarra Park Dr and Hunterglen Dr, to provide new service in this residential area.  In Bolwarra Heights and Largs the route would be modified to operate via Paterson Rd, Corina Av, Benshulla Dr and Dalveen Rd.  Limited services would continue to operate to Paterson and Gresford.

East Maitland, Morpeth, Raworth and Tenambit

  • • New route 180 would operate between Stockland Greenhills, Maitland, Rutherford, Branxton and Singleton.  It would operate via Mitchell Dr, Brisbane St, Ultimo St, Flinders St, Banks St, Brisbane St and Melbourne St.

  • • Existing route 181 would continue to operate to Rutherford, Maitland, Beresfield and Woodberry, but would be modified in the East Maitland area to operate via Lawes St, Brunswick St, Fieldsend St, Quarry St, Page St and Blaxland St.  It would no longer operate via Alliance St and Bruce St.

  • • New route 182 would operate between Rutherford and Thornton via Maitland, East Maitland, Stockland Greenhills and Ashtonfield.  In the East Maitland area it would operate via Newcastle St, High St, Lawes St, Page St and Blaxland St.

  • • Existing route 183 would continue to operate to Rutherford, Maitland and Tenambit, but would be modified in the East Maitland and Tenambit areas. 

  • • In East Maitland it would operate via Melbourne St, Brisbane St, Mitchell Dr, Stockland Greenhills, Blaxland St, Page St, Lawes St and High St.  It would no longer operate along Newcastle Street east of Melbourne St – this section would be replaced partly by new route 182.

  • • In Tenambit the route would be modified to operate via Maize St, Goldingham St, Blackley Av, Jenna Dr, Wirrah St, Crofton Av and Edward St.  It would no longer operate via Collinson St, Robert St, Ronald St, Thurby St and O’Hearn St.
    • Existing route 184 between Maitland and Morpeth would be modified to operate between Stockland Greenhills and Morpeth only.  It would operate via Mitchell Dr, Blaxland St, Page St, Lawes St, High St, Hinder St, View St, Maize St, Chambers St, Collinson St, Thompson St, Morpeth Rd, Jenna Dr, Canterbury Dr and Tank St to Morpeth Village.  There would no longer be any service along Banks St, Melbourne St, Cumberland St, Narang St and Morpeth Rd (between Jenna Dr and Tank St).
  • • Existing route 187 would be modified to operate between Wilton Dr East Maitland and Woodlands Dr Metford, operating via Stockland Greenhills.  It would operate via Wilton Dr, Turnbull Dr, Vista Pde, Mingay Av, Maher St, Richardson St, Chisholm Rd and Mitchell Dr.  it would no longer operate Rathluba Crescent, Flinders St or Wallis St – this area would be served by routes 180 and 183.

Ashtonfield and Metford
• New route 145 would be introduced providing a new cross-regional link on weekdays operate between Stockland Greenhills and Raymond Terrace via Ashtonfield, Beresfield and Woodberry.  It would operate via Mitchell Dr, Stronach Av, Chisholm Rd and South Seas Dr.

  • • Existing route 181 would continue to operate to Woodberry, Beresfield, East Maitland, Maitland and Rutherford, but would be modified in Metford to operate via Chelmsford Dr, Schanck Dr (north) and Ferraby Dr.  It would no longer operate via Woodlands Drive loop, or along the southern end of Schanck Dr or Streeton Dr – these streets would be served by new route 187.

  • • New route 182 would operate between Thornton and Rutherford via Ashtonfield, Stockland Greenhills, East Maitland, Maitland town centre and railway station and Maitland Hospital, replacing current route 186 services.  In Ashtonfield it would operate via South Seas Dr, Galway Bay Dr, Chisholm Rd and Mitchell Dr.

  • • Existing route 186 would no longer operate.  This service would be replaced by new route 182 to Thornton, East Maitland and Maitland.

  • • New route 187 would provide a local service on weekdays operating between Woodlands Drive Metford and Wilton Drive East Maitland, operating via Stockland Greenhills.  It would operate via Woodlands Dr, Streeton Dr, Schanck Dr, Chelmsford Dr and Mitchell Dr to Stockland Greenhills.

  • • Existing route 188 would no longer operate.  There would no longer be any service along Pacific Cres, Airlie St, Norfolk St or Molly Morgan Dr.  Alternative services would be available on routes 145 or 182 along South Seas Drive or Galway Bay Drive. 

Beresfield, Tarro, Thornton and Woodberry

  • • New route 145 would be introduced providing a new cross-regional link on weekdays between Stockland Greenhills and Raymond Terrace via Ashtonfield, Beresfield and Woodberry.  It would operate via Anderson Dr, Beresford St and Lawson Av.

  • • Existing route 181 would continue to operate to Stockland Greenhills, East Maitland, Maitland and Rutherford, but would be modified in the Beresfield and Woodberry area. 
    • In Woodberry it would operate via Frewin Av, Green Hills Av, Kingstown Rd, Greenway Av, Lawson Av, Kookaburra Pde, Curlew Cres and Redbill Dr.
    • In Beresfield the route would be modified to operate via Lawson Av and Anderson Dr instead of via Beresford Av and Hawthorn St – these streets would be served by new route 145.  The route would also continue to service Tarro and the Allendale St/Yarrum Av area.

  • • Existing route 186 would no longer operate.  It would be replaced by new route 182 operating to Stockland Greenhills, East Maitland, Maitland and Rutherford.  In Thornton the route would operate via Somerset Dr, Edwards Av, Thomas Cooke Dr, Taylor Av, Haussman Dr and Thornton Rd.  There would no longer be any service in Karuah St, Government Rd, John Arthur Av, Singleton Av, Arnold Cres, Blakewell Rd, Eurimbla St and Railway Av (between Haussman Dr and Eurimbla St).

Heatherbrae, Raymond Terrace and Tomago

  • • Existing route 135 would continue to operate to Medowie and Newcastle Airport, but would only extend to/from Stockton Wharf during weekday peak periods only.

  • • Existing route 137 would continue to operate to Lemon Tree Passage, but via a modified route through Medowie.

  • • Existing route 140 would divert via Tomago industrial area (Old Punt Road and Tomago Road) during weekday peak periods.  AM peak trips from Newcastle would divert via Tomago, and PM peak trips from Raymond Terrace would divert via Tomago.

  • • Existing route 141 would be modified to operate via Newline Rd, Beaton Av, Dawson Rd, Howell Cct, Bellevue St, Adelaide St and Alton Rd.

  • • New route 145 would be introduced providing a new cross-regional link on weekdays between Raymond Terrace and Stockland Greenhills via Woodberry, Beresfield and Ashtonfield.  It would operate via William Bailey Street and Raymond Terrace Road.

Ferodale, Medowie and Williamtown

  • • Existing routes 130 and 135 would continue to serve Newcastle Airport in Williamtown, providing regular links to Newcastle, Nelson Bay and Raymond Terrace.  Services to/from Stockton would be provided during peak periods only.

  • • Existing route 134 from Lemon Tree Passage to Newcastle would no longer operate.  Alternative services to Newcastle from Newcastle Airport would be provided by route 130.

  • • Existing route 135 would be modified to operate between Raymond Terrace, Medowie and Newcastle Airport.  Services to/from Stockton Wharf would only operate during weekday peak periods.  In Medowie the route would be modified to serve Medowie Shops, and would operate via Abundance Rd, Ferodale Rd, Medowie Shops, Medowie Rd, Kindlebark Dr, James Rd, Boyd Blvd, South St and Sylvan Av.  There would no longer be any service in Silver Wattle Dr, Laurina St and Coachwood Dr.  Services in the Kula Rd area would be provided by route 137.

  • • Existing route 137 would be modified to operate between Raymond Terrace and Lemon Tree Passage via Medowie and Salt Ash.  The route would operate via Medowie along Fairlands Rd, Ferodale Rd, Waropara Rd, Kula Rd, Ryan Rd, Lewis Dr, Kirrang Dr, Ferodale Rd, Medowie Shops, James Rd, Brocklesby Rd and Medowie Rd.

  • • There would no longer be any service on Kula Rd (between Kirrang Dr and Waropara Rd), Evans Rd, Abercrombie Rd, Lewis Dr (north of Ryan Rd) and Fisher Rd.

Tilligerry Peninsula (Lemon Tree Passage, Mallabula and Tanilba Bay)

  • • Existing route 134 between Tilligerry Peninsula and Newcastle would no longer operate.  For travel to Newcastle, use route 137 to Salt Ash and transfer to route 130 for onward travel.  School service would be provided to cater for students travelling to/from Newcastle.

  • • Existing route 137 between Tilligerry Peninsula and Raymond Terrace would be modified to operate via Medowie Shops.  Additional services would also be provided on Mondays to Saturdays.  There would be no change to the streets served on the Tilligerry Peninsula.

Fern Bay and Stockton

  • • Existing route 125 would be modified to provide a local service between Stockton and Fern Bay (Seaside Blvd) during daytime hours on Mondays to Saturdays.  The occasional service to/from Newcastle would no longer operate.  For travel to Newcastle, use route 125 or 135 and transfer to the ferry.

  • • Existing route 134 would no longer operate.  For travel to Newcastle, use route 130.

  • • Existing route 135 would be modified to operate between Stockton and Raymond Terrace during weekday peak periods only.

There would be no changes to existing route 130, or Nightowl bus route 118 on Friday and Saturday nights.
