Proposed changes to bus services – Suburb by Suburb

Cessnock area (including Bellbird, Bellbird Heights, Aberdare, Kearsley, Abernethy and Nulkaba)

  • •
  • Existing route 162 would operate via Aberdare Road and Northcote St on all trips to Aberdare and Abernethy.  Services in Quarrybylong St, McFarlane St and Vincent St (south) would be provided by route 167.

  • • New Saturday services would be provided on route 163 between Cessnock, Kurri Kurri and Morisset.  The existing weekday service would be revised to match current patronage.

  • •
  • Existing route 167 would operate between Cessnock and Nulkaba only, and would extend to South Cessnock (McFarlane St).  The occasional service to/from Hunter Valley Gardens would no longer operate.
  • Existing route 168 trips to Millfield, Paxton and Ellalong will be renumbered to 166.  There will be no change to the route or level of service.

  • •
  • Existing route 169 would no longer operate. A new “Cessnock Hoppa” route 165 would replace the current 169 between West Cessnock, Cessnock Hospital and East Cessnock and operate five days a week.
  • There would be no changes to routes 160 or 164.

Kurri Kurri area (including Abermain, Weston, Stanford Merthyr and Pelaw Main)

    • •
    • Existing local route 171 would be modified to operate between Abermain, Weston and Kurri Kurri.  This would provide a local service to Abermain on weekdays, serving the Bowling Club.  The existing route between Kurri Kurri and Pelaw Main would be renumbered to 172.
    • •
    • New route 172 would be introduced operating between Kurri Kurri and Heddon Greta operating via Stanford Merthyr and Pelaw Main.  It would replace existing route 171 in this area.
